The Ilustrador ng Kabataan (Illustrators for Children) -- is an association of artists committed to the creation and promotion of illustrations for children. InK was founded in June 1991, the offshoot of a Children's Book Illustration sponsored by the PBBY (Philippine Board on Books for Young People) and the Goethe-Institiute Manila which was conducted by visiting German book illustrator Reinhard Michl.
InK was born out of a felt need by the workshop participants to organize, in belief that a collective effort and organized interaction among colleagues is vital to the professionalization and development of the industry. Within a year of its inception, InK's membership has grown from 21 workshop participants to more than 70 members. A roster which includes full-time freelance illustrators, graphic designers, painters, writer-illustrators, teachers as well as students in visual arts, and artists working in publishing companies, design-related firms and advertising agencies. It is also InK's objective to set up an effective linkage and communication network among and between artists, writers, publishers and educators engaged in the production of children's books and other visual materials for children.
This is also gradually being realized by the group through its monthly general meetings, regular newsletters, annual catalogs and yearly exhibitions. These have proven to be efficient venues for idea and information exchange among members, as well as establishing and facilitating contacts with children's book publishers and other interested parties. InK recognizes that there is still much more to be done in the arena of designing and illustrating children's books in the Philippines, this being a relatively young industry in the country.
But for as long as there are eager young minds and children's stories to be told, InK hopes to continue pursuing its vision.

mavsmultiplied wrote on Oct 12, '11 Good day! Our school located here in New Manila, Q.C., will be celebrating our Literacy Week next week. We would like to invite an storybook illustrator to share with the kids the art of illustrating a story. If possible, we are also interested in having them experience a short workshop on how to illustrate a story. Our school caters to children with learning disabilities such as dyslexia and ADHD/ADD. Can we invite someone from you organization? If yes, what are the proper procedures/process so we can do so? Thanks and the we (kids and teachers) are hoping for your positive response. :) |

kpanol wrote on Sep 22, '09 Dear Ang INK, Since its creation in 2006, the Philippine Society for Orphan Disorders, Inc. (PSOD) has commissioned itself to serve as a central network for the advocacy and effective coordination of all viable efforts to sustain a better quality of life for individuals for individuals with orphan or rare disorders in the Philippines. With the challenge of soliciting funds for rare diseases, PSOD needs to look for alternative and creative measures to generate sustainable income for the organization that will not rely solely on donations. Thus, Project Rare Storybooks was conceptualized by combining the component of literacy/education with the PSOD's advocacy. The ultimate goal for the Project Rare Storybooks is to have an annual/continuing project for the Society in partnership with the national government agencies, local government units, NGOs/socio-civic groups, the business sector, and other institutions, which shall have the following objectives: 1. Raise awareness among the school sector, particularly among the students, teachers and school/education system administrators, and 2. Bring in sustainable income for PSOD. At the same time, the project aims to tap the talents of the young in educating their fellow schoolchildren on raising awareness regarding rare diseases by means of a storybook competition. With art (writing and, perhaps, illustration), kids can help re-tell the stories or life lessons of children with rare diseases, of their families and friends, and perhaps contribute to the education and values formation of the readers of the eventual storybooks. In this regard, we would like to enjoin your support for the Project Rare Storybooks as illustrators. We believe that with your help, we can make our advocacy more alive to the kids, their parents, school and community. Should you have any questions, please contact me at 0922-8008783 or 3452452 or at kpanol@yahoo.com. You may also visit our website at www.psod.org.ph. With your help and care we can nurture these patients back to health and give them a chance to hope for a better life. Respectfully, Karen Panol Project Manager |
